Ostrich in Arcadia

Off to Norfolk in a loaded van to get lost on the annual summer tour of midweek mid-afternoon Car Boot Sales, public houses named after the Ostrich, out of the way auction rooms, old bookshops, back street junk shops and bass haunted beaches.

P.D.Q Ultra-Sensitive Bite Indicator

Found by a gentleman called Keith Armishaw from River Reads Books a P.D.Q Ultra-Sensitive Bite Indicator in its original box.  Keith brought this alarm to our Tented Installation of Vintage Fishing Tackle for the Soul at Port Eliot last weekend where it was not out of place in the Electric Bite Alarm Silent Choir, particularly as the battery appeared to have been removed at some point during the period in history known as the Three Day-Week.

Spitalfields

Found at Spitalfields yesterday on the floor by one stall an ashtray from the counter of Johnson & Clark in Staines-upon-Thames advertising Sylcast.  'The Aristocrat of Fishing Lines' was manufactured during the late mid-century in the suburb known as South-East London by the Modern Arms Company a.k.a Marco.  The ashtray is stamped R2S Made in Italy, Tel. 598279 - Milano.  During a quiet moment at the market yesterday I called this number from the field telephone but there was no answer.

Johnson & Clark

Once upon a time in Arcadia and particularly twice a week including most notably on a Thursday, ladies and gentlemen would fill their Gentle Chutes with Giant Maggots at Johnson & Clark in the town known as Staines-by-the-Thames.  Should your Gentle Chute need filling on a Thursday you are advised to hasten to the district of London known as E1, where at Spitalfields Market on my stall opposite the Company of Square Pies I can sell you a Gentle Chute and advise on which Giant Maggot Dealer to call.

Arcadia-by-Eliot

In the kitchens of Arcadia over a late breakfast of Elgar-on-toast chipped mugs are raised and filled with tea and Victory Gin as we stand to salute the tender hospitality, hard work and vision of the Port Eliot  and Caught by the River Gang who built a wonderful week in the field by the River known locally as the Tidey or Lynher.  Words are few this morning as many were left in B-Road Lay-by's on the journey home but those that were lost can be found in the photographs below.

Across Arcadia you will find Terriers sound asleep on their Goddard Patent Dog Beds after returning from Port Eliot.

I Go Out on Friday Night and I Come Home on Saturday Morning

Snapshots from the resort of Arcadia-by-Eliot, where ladies and gentlemen go out on Friday Night and come home on Saturday Morning.  Including a chalkboard 'Letter From Arcadia' washed away by the rain and a glimpse of a watercolour of Piscator and Fitch's visit to the 'The World of Andrews of Arcadia' which was painted by the artist known as Pete Fowler and which will be unveiled on Caught by the River in the not so distant future.
