Spitalfields

The first proper day of autumn at Spitalfields yesterday where I found myself in the privileged position of listening to two veterans of the London Angler's Association, Mr. Joe Langridge of the Olive Branch A.S. and Mr. Alfie Kuyper of the Brunswick Brothers holding court over a cup of market tea at the stall as they reminisced about the days when they fished against one another in the L.A.A. Shield and the various  tactics the rival clubs employed in the pursuit of goer roach and Thames bream.

Coventry Thursday Angling Society

Once upon a time in Arcadia, namely on a Thursday members of the  Coventry Thursday Angling Society would go fishing at Napton Brickyard.  The object of the Society was to provide angling amenities and facilities solely for Coventry and District Shopkeepers and their employees who were anglers and whose weekly half day off was Thursday.

Such benevolence would be rare to find these days but should your employer see fit to give you a half day holiday on any given Thursday you are welcome to visit me on my stall at Spitalfields Antiques Market where I sell Vintage Fishing Tackle for the Soul and drink tea in memory of the members of the Thursday until approximately 3pm.

The Caught by the River Social Club: Last Night

Across Arcadia the flags have been put out to thank all those of you who travelled along the course of the River Fleet to the upstairs room of The Stag Public House to listen to myself, Luke Jennings, Charles Rangeley-Wilson and Chris Yates tell tales of monsters hooked in the waters of gothic weirpools, lost rivers, infamous meres and public swimming baths.  Your good health shall be drunk with a half of Pale Ale at midday and we look forward to finding ourselves in your company again very soon.

The Caught by the River Social Club: Tonight

The ghosts of many an angler will be reeling in early this afternoon on the Vale of Health and other waters upon the Hampstead Heath and quickening their step as they make their way silently through the back streets, past Sharp's Fishing Tackle to the upstairs bar of The Stag Public House where the latest edition of The Caught by the River Social Club will take place.  You are invited to join them from 7pm onwards.

Large Harcork Float

Found in the margins of Arcadia a Large Harcork Float measuring 4 1/2 inches in Imperial.  Rendered in a flourescent yellow the Harcork Float is considered to be the quintessential float of the Post-War Period.

Fishing on Sundays

In some remote districts of Arcadia it is still strictly forbidden for an angler to fish on a Sunday due to the  strict adherence to the code of attending the local Car Boot Sale.  If you are intending to take advantage of the continuing warm weather to go fishing today or on any other Sunday in the calendar you are advised to check with the local Factor on this matter.

All those of you not spending your day fishing for a bucket of bream at East India Dock may wish to take the London Underground District Line to the district known as Chiswick Park and proceed via Public Houses to Chiswick Town Hall where you will find me portering for Angling Auctions, a bi-annual duty which involves the drinking of tea from paper cups and the showing in a straight faced manner of over 200 lots of rods.
