In the region of Arcadia referred to on occasion as Yorkshire, the coarse fishing season opened yesterday, the 1st June, a full two weeks before it is due to in other counties. Not only does this cause an outbreak of bobble hats from other parts in areas of Leeds it also means that maggot breeders in the county are working overtime this weekend. Save some liver from your Jubilee Breakfast for them and spare it along with a grateful thought as you gaze upon this snap of Frank Knowles a breeder from York at work in the 1960's. The photograph was kindly sent to me by the esteemed historian John Essex from an album compiled by Knowles and the late Frank Oates.
