Spitalfields

Found at Spitalfields an 8" x 6" monochrome by G. Watmough Webster of the premises of George Woolliscroft, ironmonger by trade who was born in the district of West Kirby in the year 1861 and died on the 28th July 1912.  All those who have served and sold fishing tackle.  We shall remember them.

When at London Bridge

Once upon a time in Arcadia, and especially on a Thursday, ladies and gentlemen finding themselves at London Bridge in the district of London known as SE1 would pop in to see the naturalist, cousin of Yehudi Menuhin and associate of Jack Hargreaves, John Gordon Miller who, along with his father, ran a number of kiosks and stalls as Tobacco and Fishing Tackle Dealers and whose London Bridge premises were at No. 34 Railway Approach.

Should you find yourself standing on London Bridge today you are advised not to look for John Gordon Miller as the business is sadly no longer there.  Instead, using the sun to navigate, turn in a northerly direction and walk towards Spitalfields Antiques Market, where on Thursdays between the hours of 8am and on occasion (such as today) as late as 4pm I buy and sell Vintage Fishing Tackle for the Soul.

Abu Svangsta

In the country known as Sweden ladies and gentlemen have the day off as it is their National Day of Holiday.  To mark this and send respects I have put an old piece of cardboard up for sale in the form of an original Tight Lines 68 sign - to be found in the wing of my website called 'Just in, Sir'.

The Lost Years

Found at Wimbledon Car Boot Sale on Saturday morning a selection of photographs contained within an old album of an Anglo-German family and their adventures in the decade between-the-wars, a life defined by salmon fishing expeditions, otter hunting, ski jumping and impromptu dog portraiture.

The Stolen Fortnight

In the region of Arcadia referred to on occasion as Yorkshire, the coarse fishing season opened yesterday, the 1st June, a full two weeks before it is due to in other counties.   Not only does this cause an outbreak of bobble hats from other parts in areas of Leeds it also means that maggot breeders in the county are working overtime this weekend.  Save some liver from your Jubilee Breakfast for them and spare it along with a grateful thought as you gaze upon this snap of Frank Knowles a breeder from York at work in the 1960's.  The photograph was kindly sent to me by the esteemed historian John Essex from an album compiled by Knowles and the late Frank Oates.
