Advent-in-Arcadia returns after a day of radio silence during which the the long return from Ludlow was undertaken by motor van with a new old item for all souls on immediate sale 'In the Shop Window' of my website, a 1932 "Allcock-Aerial" 4ins. Centre Pin Reel (No. 7981) with Adjustable Regulating Brake, Optional Check, Xylonite Handles and "B.P." Aluminium Line Guard with Roller Bar.  In the year 1932 this reel would have cost the lady or gentleman at Christmas 65/- which in new money is approximately £475 in new fivers.  Good afternoon.

The Holy Tablet of Kempton Park

My latest column for the bi-monthly Classic Angling Magazine is out now.  I have been writing a column for Classic Angling for every issue since January 2003.  This one dwells on a 1934 Kelly's Post Office London Directory that I bought in the half light of a late autumn dawn at Kempton and which consists of 3786 pages, 'a vessel that transports you on a voyage of perception, blown along by the breath of doors opening and closing on old shops; where one is borne aloft by the shouts of obsolete traders: the accordion pleaters, bill poster contractors, chimney sweepers, dung merchants and pencil makers.'  You may subscribe to Classic Angling by going to the subscription page on their website.
