C. Godfrey Hall & Co, 89 Regent Street, London W

Once upon a time in Arcadia, namely in the Year of Our Lord and Other Curses 1896, ladies and gentlemen abroad of the streets of London in search of fishing tackles and other requisites and feeling as they might 'of tender foot' could ask a passing Hansom to take them without haste to the premises of C. Godfrey Hall & Co at 89 Regent Street in the district of London W, whose telegraphic address was of course, "Tender Feet, London".  Godfrey's were high-class court, military, hunting and general bootmakers and purveyors of stout cardboard boxes.

Should you be a lady or gentleman abroad on the streets of London W or any other district and find yourself tender of foot you are advised to hail a carriage and say the words, 'Spitalfields, please driver' whereupon you will be transported back through time to the Year of Our Lord and Other Curses 1896, also known as my stall at Spitalfields Antiques Market where on Thursdays only between the hours good of 8am and 3, I sell Vintage Fishing Tackle for the Soul and have occasional Festivals of Cardboard.  Thank-you.

Far From the Madding Crowd

The Frensham Pond Folk Memory Appreciation Society assembled last night in a packed upstairs room somewhere in the district of London Country known as Dalston where The Memory Band performed in its entirety their mesmerising new recording 'On The Chalk (Our Navigation of the Line of the Downs)', either side of a ghostly recital of 'A Bold Grenadier' by the artist Hannah Caughlin.

On street corners, in public bars and at car boot sales across Arcadia, street urchins are hard at work dishing out handbills to the discerning for The National Vintage Fishing Tackle Fair which is only a fortnight away.  Should you wish to distribute some handbills locally or have one for posterity please call me on the Field Telephone Number 07980 274 383.  Thank-you.

At the Sign of The Golden Perch

Once upon a time in Arcadia, on a Thursday in the year known as 1844, ladies and gentlemen abroad on the streets of London and in search of Fishing Tackles would look for the sign of The Golden Perch, for there at 132 Oxford Street J. Cheek traded, a manufacturer of umbrellas, walking sticks, riding whips, archery, fishing rods and tackle and an occasional dealer in cricket bats.

Today in the year of Arcadia and other curses 2013 you may walk along Oxford Street and look in vain for a shop selling riding whips or an occasional dealer in cricket bats.   However, if you are a lady or a gentlemen and you are in need of fishing rods and tackle do not despair simply take the Underground Railway from Bond Street to Liverpool Street along the Central Line and process on foot to my stall at Spitalfields Antiques Market, where at the Sign of the Gagged Pike I buy and sell Vintage Fishing Tackle for the Soul from my stall which is open on Thursdays only between the hours of 8am and 3pm.  I look forward to your good company.

No Ordinary Light

Across Arcadia tea is being drunk by the gallon as restorative baths of Victory Gin and Hobson's Mild are drawn after a Night of Phantoms was spectacularly summoned by all those gracious souls who came to last night's Caught by the River Social at The Queen's Head Public House in the district known as Piccadilly.  Until the next time good friends may The Silt Road rise to meet you, the skies above be yours and the ghost car pass you by.
